Transactions, Authorizations & Declines

View the card balance and a list of all transactions through AAAMemberPay.com, the Manage My Card by Pathward app, or customer service number listed on the back of the card. Third party phone and data fees may apply.

Pending transactions are reflected in the available balance but won’t be finalized until posted by the merchant. The amount listed may not be the actual final amount.

When making a purchase in-person, the merchant may have attempted to process the purchase for a greater amount than what is available on the card. If this happens, ask the merchant to split the payment across multiple methods (see "What is a split-tender transaction and how does it work?"). Only the amount loaded on your card can be spent; any amounts beyond that will cause a decline. If the merchant offers a “gift” selection, ensure “gift” was not used instead of “credit” or “debit” to run the transaction (see “How can I use my card?”).

Yes, it’s possible but only if the merchant allows split-tender transactions (see “What is a split-tender transaction and how does it work?”).

When the purchase is for an amount greater than the available balance, the payment must be split across multiple payment methods. Depending on the merchant’s policy, the cardholder can request a split-tender transaction – just use an additional card or alternative payment method to cover the remaining cost of the purchase beyond the card’s balance. There is no guarantee that every merchant will accept two different forms of payment.

The mobile check capture service is provided by Ingo Money.* Visit IngoMoney.com for complete details.

General

It is a reloadable prepaid card that can be loaded with $10 to $5,000 and used to make purchases at millions of Visa merchants, online or by phone. It can also be used to access cash in local currency at millions of ATMs worldwide. It’s also a travel card with added security, stronger theft protection, and a wide international acceptance.

Effective September 30, 2022, AAA and Pathward, N.A. have discontinued their relationship. MemberPay Cards are no longer affiliated with AAA and are managed solely by Pathward, N.A. Prior to September, 2022, AAA offered prepaid card products that were issued by Pathward, N.A.

Since January 1, 2004, Visa regulations have required issuers to label non-credit products such as prepaid cards with the term “debit.” Although the card is labeled “debit,” the cardholder may select “credit” and sign for purchases to indicate the transaction is authorized. If selecting "debit," the cardholder must also use a PIN to complete the transaction.

Secondary & Personalized Cards

At the time of initial purchase only, the cardholder may purchase up to two secondary cards in addition to the primary card. All cards will be tied to the same card account and balance but will have different card numbers. All cards will be fully functional, but if one becomes lost or stolen, that card may be cancelled without impacting the use of the other cards. For that reason, a secondary card can act as an immediate replacement card for any lost or stolen card on the account.

Secondary cards can be used as backup for the primary card, a way to share funds during travel, a tool for household budgeting, or a way to share money with a dependent such as a college student away from home.

Yes, a personalized card will be automatically mailed for the primary accountholder to the address on file after the first reload occurs on the account. The new card will have a new number, and all funds will automatically transfer to the new card once it’s activated. Consumers who have already purchased a secondary card through their club can request a personalized replacement card for $2.50 by calling customer service.

Cardholders must be 16 years or older to purchase an AAA MemberPay Visa Prepaid Card. Secondary cardholders must be 13 years of age or older.

Fees

There are some fees to keep in mind. The Cardholder Agreement that accompanied the card lists the associated fees. For any questions about fees, contact customer service at the number on the back of the card or see the MemberPay Cardholder Agreement.

It is a fee assessed by a financial institution to a consumer who uses an electronic payment card to make a purchase outside the United States. Transactions in U.S. Territories (e.g., Puerto Rico) may be considered foreign transactions, as well as online transactions with a merchant based in another country.

Fraud / Theft

If the card has been lost or stolen, report it by calling customer service at 1-866-261-1971. If outside the United States, collect-call 571-526-3975 from anywhere. A customer service representative will assist in cancelling the lost/stolen card and send a replacement card with the remaining balance within 7-10 business days. There will be a $2.50 fee assessed to the card balance for the replacement card.

If there are fraudulent or unauthorized transactions on the card account, contact customer service immediately (866-261-1971). The dispute process begins once all required documentation is received and may take from 45 to 90 days to finalize. Pathward abides by the Zero Liability Policy provided by Visa, which you may access at visa.com/security. Visa stipulates that the Zero Liability does not apply to ATM transactions.
