Gift Help

It is a Gift Card purchased by an individual to be given to a gift recipient. It can be loaded with $10 to $500 and used to make purchases at Visa® merchants in the U.S. or U.S. territories, online or by phone when registered.

Effective September 30, 2022, AAA and Pathward, N.A. have discontinued their relationship. Gift Cards are no longer affiliated with AAA and are managed solely by Pathward, N.A. Prior to September, 2022, AAA offered prepaid card products that were issued by Pathward, N.A.

Cardholders must be at least 13 years old to purchase a Gift Card.

The card may be used everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted in the U.S. and its territories.  It can also be used for online and phone purchases when registered.

Yes, but keep in mind many service-oriented merchants automatically hold an additional percentage to cover any gratuity or incidental charges incurred. When using the card at restaurants, it’s best to have an available balance that is 20 percent greater than the bill.

Yes, but when using the card at hotels and car rental agencies, check with the merchant to find out how much, if any, they over-authorize their transactions.

Yes, however, an authorization or hold of at least $100 may be placed on the account when you pay at the pump. This authorization may not be removed from the account for several days. To avoid this over-authorization, simply pay for gas inside the service station.

No. Gift Cards are for domestic use only and, as such, can only be used in the United States and areas considered to be U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Guam.

Select “credit” at the merchant or store’s card terminal. “Debit” may also be selected if a PIN has been established (see “How do I set up my personal identification number (PIN)?”). If making a purchase online or over the phone, ensure the billing address matches the one registered to the card (see “How do I change my address”?).

Since January 1, 2004, Visa regulations have required issuers to label non-credit products such as prepaid cards with the term “debit.” Although the card is labeled “debit,” the cardholder may select “credit” and sign for purchases to indicate the transaction is authorized. If selecting “debit,” the cardholder must also use a PIN to complete the transaction.

When making a purchase in person, the merchant may have attempted to process the purchase for a greater amount than what is available on the card. If this happens, ask the merchant to split the payment across multiple methods (see “What is a split-tender transaction and how does it work?”). Only the amount loaded on the card can be spent; any amounts beyond that will cause a decline. Also see “How can I use my card?”

Yes, it’s possible but only if the merchant allows split-tender transactions (see “What is a split-tender transaction and how does it work?”).

When the purchase is for an amount greater than the available balance, the payment must be split across multiple payment methods. Depending on the merchant’s policy, the cardholder can request a split-tender transaction – just use an additional card or alternative payment method to cover the remaining cost of the purchase beyond the card’s balance. There is no guarantee that every merchant will accept two different forms of payment.

Cash cannot be withdrawn from the Gift Card. It is for point-of-sale, online and phone purchases only.
